More Than Charisma: Why Theology Matters

More Than Charisma: Why Theology Matters

No one trains for a marathon by showing up on race day. But for years, that’s what ministry has looked like in rural Guatemala—faithful pastors preaching with fire in their hearts, but no map in their hands. They lead from passion and calling, but without tools, without teaching, and often without understanding the full message of the Gospel they so earnestly desire to share. This isn’t a lack of sincerity. It’s a lack of access.

The Desert Before the Rain

One of our local leaders once said it best:

“We preached what we remembered—not always what was true.”

In rural villages, theological training isn’t just rare—it’s nearly impossible to access. Materials are expensive. Seminaries are far. Many pastors begin ministry before they can even read the Bible for themselves. Others have inherited teachings distorted by cultural traditions or spiritual confusion. And without guidance, even the most devoted hearts can lead others astray.

It’s not enough to feel the fire. We need the foundation.

Send Me Seminary: Irrigating Dry Soil

That’s why we started Send Me Seminary—a three-year, nine-level program offering an accredited diploma in Biblical Studies through a model that fits the real lives of the pastors we serve. In partnership with SETECA and A.G.A.P.E., we’ve brought trained professors directly into Joyabaj. Pastors gather monthly to study, reflect, and grow—learning Scripture in context, unlearning harmful traditions, and becoming leaders marked by compassion, clarity, and courage.

We like to say:

Theological education is not a hassle. It’s irrigation in the desert of unfamiliarity with God’s Word.

And the transformation is real. Families are being restored. Communities are learning grace. Pastors who once felt alone now walk in unity and truth.

Where the Gospel Grows Deep

The Gospel doesn’t flourish in noise. It flourishes in understanding. And that’s what Send Me Seminary is about—not just knowing more but knowing better.

We don’t need louder preachers. We need deeper roots.
